Anita Peterson Obituary

Anita M. Peterson, 91, of Elkhart, IN passed away the morning of Sunday, November 16, 2025.

She was born on December 30, 1933 in Monroe, MI to the late Herbert and Meta (Gaertner) Miller.

On September 18, 1954, she was united in marriage to Richard Peterson, who passed away in 2001.

Anita was also preceded in death by her siblings, Juanita (David) Lentz, Douglas Miller, Ruth Miller, and Alan (Jackie) Miller.

She is survived by her two sons, Craig R. Peterson and Dane J. Peterson; two grandchildren, Alexis Peterson and Zoie (Ben) Nusbaum; and two great-grandchildren, Sophie Nusbaum and Wesley Nusbaum.

Anita graduated from Monroe High School with the Class of 1952 before moving to Elkhart. She went on to work at Elkhart General Hospital in Patient Accounts, where she remained employed for 45 years before her retirement. When she wasn’t working, Anita enjoyed playing games like euchre and pinochle. She was an avid sports fan and cheered on Michigan teams along with her family. Anita had a deep faith and was a loyal member of Trinity Lutheran Church of Elkhart. Above all, she loved spending time with her family – especially her grandchildren.

Anita was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, and she will be greatly missed by all who knew her.

A funeral service for Anita will be held on Tuesday, November 25, 2025 at 12:00 PM at Trinity Lutheran Church, 30888 CR 6, Elkhart, IN 46514 with visitation for two hours prior. Following the service, Anita will be laid to rest at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens beside her sister and loving husband.
