Barbara R. Brumbaugh, 83, of Goshen, passed into the loving arms of her Lord Jesus Christ on Friday, January 6, 2023, at Greencroft Healthcare in Goshen.
Barbara was born on October 28, 1939, in Lexington, KY to the late William and Bertha (Miller) Menges. Also preceding her in death is a brother, Robert Menges and a stepdaughter,
Carol Brumbaugh.
On May 21, 1967, she married John S. Brumbaugh. John died on December 16, 2016. Surviving is a daughter, Joanna (Chris) Jacobsen of Elkhart; son, Paul (Emily) Brumbaugh of Granger and a stepson, Ken Brumbaugh of Elkhart. Also surviving are four grandchildren, Brittany, Johnathon and Miles Brumbaugh and Tyler Jacobsen.
Barbara grew up in Indianapolis and graduated from Southport High School in 1957 and Purdue University in 1962. She then came to Elkhart where she worked as a home service representative with Indiana and Michigan Electric company until 1971. She also worked in the paint and hardware department at Sears for 21 years from 1978-1999.
She was active with the Lutheran Women Missionary League at both Trinity Lutheran Church and Prince of Peace Lutheran Church in Goshen. She is best known for having knitted over 1,000 infant sweaters for baby care kits as well as making comforters with Lutheran World Relief. She and her husband, John, delivered commodities from the area to Grand Rapids, MI and Indianapolis for many years. They also volunteered for nine years at Lutheran World Relief/Brethren Service Center in New Windsor, MD. Barbara was known for her love for her Savior and her family.
Visitation for Barbara will be held on Monday, January 9th, 2023, from 4 pm to 7 pm at Hartzler-Gutermuth-Inman Funeral Home. Friends and family may also call one hour prior to services at noon on Tuesday, January 10, at the Prince of Peace Lutheran Church in Goshen. The Rev. Andy Wollman will officiate. Barbara will be laid to rest next to her husband John at Rice Cemetery in Elkhart.
