Carol Jean Champaigne, 77, passed away the evening of Friday, March 14, 2025 in Elkhart, IN.
Born December 7, 1947 to William and Louanna Scoville in Elkhart, Indiana. Siblings Jerry Scoville, Nancy Scoville Stoner, Margo Scoville Mathis. Children Curtis Michael Jones, David James Champaigne, Jason Edward Champaigne.
Carol graduated Elkhart high school (1966) and earned a Business degree from Indiana University. When she was seventeen, she worked as head cashier at Kroger to help support her mother. Carol also worked at Chicago Telephone Supply (CTS) in Elkhart for many years, held a real estate broker license, and worked at the Christian Science headquarters in Boston in the office of General Counsel.
Her most wonderful, 50-year marriage to Jim Champaigne began with a meeting for Christian Science youth in January 1975. Within three months, and well attended by the students of Jim’s fourth grade class from Harrison Elementary in South Bend, they were married on (the best ever) Good Friday, March 28, 1975. Jim’s twin brother, Jack, was best man; Carol’s sister, Margo, was matron of honor.
She was sagacious in her home economics and served her church for many years as Sunday School teacher, Board member and Second Reader. A beautiful soprano, her voice filled her church and numerous auditoriums with the South Bend Symphony choir.
Services will be held among family at a later date.
