Carolyn Fisher Obituary

Carolyn A. Fisher, 71, of Elkhart, died on Sunday, February 7, 2021 at Elkhart General Hospital.

She was born February 14, 1949 in Elkhart to the late Roger Phillips and Marjorie Cade. She married Arthur G. Fisher on April 16, 1966.

Carolyn was preceded in death by her mother and father; grandmother Evelyn Davis; grandfather Willie Davis and an Uncle Claude Cade.

She is survived by her husband of nearly 55 years Arthur Fisher of Elkhart, daughters; Tinya R. Fisher of Indianapolis and Triest R. Fisher of Elkhart, grandchildren Kristin (Kent) Baker of Washington D.C. and Taylir Christian of Washington D.C., Carolyn is also survived by a great-grandson Kendal Baker.   She leaves behind many cousins, nieces, nephews, family and friends.

After graduating from Elkhart High School in June of 1969, Carolyn went on to earn her Bachelor of Arts degree from Goshen College and Master’s degree in Education from Indiana University South Bend.   Striving to be a lifelong learner she attended Mortuary School through the Stratford Career Institute.

Carolyn was very passionate about education and teaching.  She dedicated many years of her life working as an educator.  Carolyn began her teaching career at Ullery School, in Elkhart, IN.  Carolyn also worked for the South Bend School Corporation where she began teaching in the adult education program before moving on to teach at Edward Eggleston Elementary School.

Carolyn loved to plan events, not only for her students at school, like quiz bowl and spelling bees, she also loved to entertain for her family and friends. She was a mentor to many of her students and loved to laugh and have fun whenever she could.  Carolyn enjoyed cooking for her family, her most famous dish was her potato salad, and everyone wanted the recipe. Carolyn was a dreamer at heart, as well as intelligent, loyal, and classy, she was a very stylish and fashionable woman having a different outfit for every occasion and a pair of shoes to go along with it.

A visitation for Carolyn will be held from 12 noon to 1:00 pm on Thursday, February 18, 2021 at Hartzler-Gutermuth-Inman Funeral Home with a funeral service at 1:00 pm. A graveside service will follow at Prairie Street Cemetery. Officiating will be Rev. Charles Cross of St. James AME Church.
