Chuck was born March 15, 1945, in Benton Harbor, MI to the late Charles C. and Virginia L. (White) Marshall.

He was a graduate of St. Joseph High School in St. Joseph, MI in 1963, and Western Michigan University in 1971 where he received a BBA in Accountancy.

On January 1, 1989, Chuck married Christy L. Gildner in Elkhart.  She survives along with two daughters: Heather (Arnie) of Snoqualmie, WA and Anna Marshall of Dallas, TX; a grandson, Harkin of Snoqualmie and a sister, Merrily (Wendell) Emery of Holland, MI.

As a college student, before he entered the military, he was given his first airplane ride which sparked his interest in aviation.  Chuck joined the United States Air Force, and served from l966-1970, where he became a minuteman missile mechanic. While stationed at Sheppard Air Force Base in Wichita Falls, TX, he had the opportunity to join the aero club and pursue his dream of flying.

Chuck began his professional career in l971 at Crowe Chizek, where he worked as an accountant.  In l975 he became a general manager at GM International. In l981, he opened his own accounting firm, CCM & Associates, in Cassopolis, Michigan. Also, during that time, he became more involved in his hobby of breeding and racing quarter horses and thoroughbreds. In 1985 he partnered with Stephen Poe to create the firm known as Marshall and Poe, CPA’s.   He continued as managing partner with the business until his retirement in 2007.

Before and after his retirement, Chuck continued to fly, acquiring his Commercial Pilot’s certificate with single engine land and sea ratings, multi engine land, and instrument rating. He completed the FAA FAST formation flight lead and trainer certification.  He participated in numerous aviation events on both land and water, including the Elkhart Wardbird Gathering, the Elkhart Salute to Veterans Airshow, and was a member of the Reno Air Race Team #88 pit crew.

Chuck was a member of the Warbirds of America, the EAA Chapter 132 in Elkhart, the AICPA, the IMA, NATA (North American Trainer Association), the National Stearman Restorers Association, the SPA (Sea Plane Association), the AOPA (Airplane Owners Pilot Association) the Quiet Birdmen, and the Elks 425.  Chuck served as the treasurer of; the Warbirds of America, North American Trainer Association, FAST International, and CAF/TRARON.  In June of 2017 he received the prestigious Wilbur Wright Master Pilot Award from the FAA for 50+ years of incident free flying.

‚ÄčAlong with being an accomplished pilot, Chuck enjoyed a variety of other activities. These included sailing his boat, the China Doll in the Great Lakes, biking, Nordic and downhill skiing/snowboarding, fishing and hunting.  He had a talent for cooking, and in later years gardened and canned tomatoes.

Chuck was a caring husband, father, grandfather and friend to many.  He contributed so much to everyone and everything he touched. His presence will be greatly missed by all that knew him. His legacy and the man himself were one of a kind.

Blue skies and tailwinds.
