Obituary

Clarence Wheeler Jr., 73, of Elkhart, died Friday, March 17, 2023, at Valley View Healthcare Center in Elkhart after an extended illness.

He was born on May 25, 1949, in Sikeston, MO to the late Clarence and Ernestine (Williams) Wheeler.  He was also preceded in death by a brother, Sylvester Wheeler and four sisters: Joyce Moton, Geraldine Walker, Barbara Woods and Carolyn Carruthers.

Left to cherish Clarence’s memory are two sons: Tellys Whitener and Michael D. Whitener; a daughter, Felicia Whitener and their mother, Durethe Whitener, all of Elkhart; two sisters, Julie Wheeler and Hilda (Donnell) Norah and a brother, Clay Wheeler, all of Elkhart.  Also surviving are five grandchildren: Michael Fox, DaQuan Whitener, Telvon Whitener, Ciniah Cotton and Teleah Barham and two great grandchildren, all of Elkhart; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and a special friend, Brenda J. Hawkins of Indianapolis.

Visitation for Clarence will be held on Friday, March 24, 2023, from 11:00 am until 1:00 pm at Hartzler-Gutermuth-Inman Funeral Home.  Cremation will follow and graveside services will be held at a later date.
