Dolores Jean (Russo) Merrick

Dolores Jean Merrick, 90, of Goshen, died Tuesday, August 24, 2021 at Elkhart Meadows.

Jean was born January 14, 1931 in Elkhart, Indiana to the late Nicholas and Theresa (MacKowski) Russo. She married Firmer Merrick at St. Vincent Catholic Church in Elkhart on May 6, 1950.

Jean is preceded in death by her parents and a brother, Nicholas Russo. She is survived by her husband Firmer Merrick; Five sons: Michael (Patti) Merrick of Georgia, Mark (Eva) Merrick of Michigan, Matthew (Deloris) Merrick of Wisconsin, William Shannon (Lynne) Merrick of Florida and John Merrick of Goshen, IN. Four daughters: Catherine (William) Oxidine of California, Marti Merrick of South Bend, IN, Kristin (Richard) Kessler of Ohio and Julie (Thomas) Hellinga of Plymouth, IN. Jean is also survived by nineteen grandchildren and nineteen great-grandchildren.

Jean was a member of St. Vincent Catholic Church in Elkhart, where she was part of the Rosary Society for many years. She also served on the Middlebury School Board from 1975 to 1991. She also enjoyed being a teachers aid at the local elementary school. Jean loved to knit things for her family. Most of all she loved supporting her children and grandchildren.

A visitation for Jean will be held Sunday, August 29, 2021 from 2pm-5pm with a Rosary service starting at 4pm at Hartzler-Gutermuth-Inman Funeral in Elkhart. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday, August 30, 2021 at 11am at St. Vincent Catholic Church in Elkhart. Burial will follow at St. Vincent Cemetery.
