Edith C. (Doyle) Luebke

Edith C. Luebke, 89, of Elkhart, died Sunday morning, April 4, 2021 at Elkhart Meadows.

Edith was born May 24, 1931 in Mishawaka, IN to the late Thomas Gilbert and Lillian (Tidwell) Doyle. She married her high school sweetheart Walter H. Luebke on December 29, 1951 in Elkhart at Trinity Lutheran Church.

Edith was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers: Gilbert and Russell Doyle, a sister: JoAnne DeMeyer and a son in law, Lon McFarland.

She is survived by her husband of 69 years, three daughters: Vicky McFarland of Mishawaka, Michelle (Jeff) Kline of Elkhart and Sherry (Mark) Dixon of Elkhart; and a son Greg (Gen) Luebke of Rhinelander, WI; a sister Helen (Jim) Kauffman of Elkhart. Also surviving are her grandchildren: Melanie (Jason), Valerie (Brad), Kaitlyn (David), Matthew, Sean, Nathan, Bryce, Taylor, Lillian, Breyden and Chris. As well as six great-grandchildren: Parker, Ainsley, Liam, Hadley, Kaiden and Deklan.

Edith graduated from Elkhart High School in 1950. After high school she started working at CTS in Elkhart. Later in life she worked for ADEC, working in the cafeteria making meals from scratch. She also made and served food to the children at Woodland Elementary in Elkhart and then on to Elkhart Memorial High School where she retired. For many years Edith was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Cassopolis, MI. Edith loved being outside in her garden and around her flowers and when she wasn’t outside, she was inside baking treats for her family and friends. She was especially known for her famous old fashion sugar cookies. Edith loved to sing and dance, and she knew how to have a good time. But more than anything she loved her family; she adored her grandchildren as much as they adored her.

A visitation for Edith will be held Friday, April 9, 2021 from 10am-12pm at Hartzler-Gutermuth-Inman Funeral Home. A service will follow at 12pm. Burial will take place at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens in Osceola. Pastor Paul Doellinger will be officiating the service.
