Esther Doris (Mass) Hampel

Esther Doris Hampel, 89, of Elkhart, passed away July 1, 2023 at the Laurels of Goshen. She was born in Elkhart on November 2, 1933, to the late Oscar Hans and Catherine (Kambach) Mass.

Esther is preceded in death by her parents and her sister Nancy A. Catanzarite.

She is survived by her children: James (Sue Ann) Hampel of Elkhart and Kathy (Tim Miller) Sears of Goshen. Three grandchildren: Sarah (Brandon), Amy (Dakota) and A.J. as well as two great-grandchildren: Matthew and Olivia with another on the way named Luke. The family would also like to thank her caregivers Pati Briery and Judy Freeby as well as the staff at the Laurels of Goshen.

Esther graduated from Elkhart High School in 1951. She was a member of Trinity on Jackson Church for many years. Esther was a member of the FourArts Club and the Red Hat Society. Esther was once employed at Drakes Department store and Westview Florist as a Bookkeeper for many years. Esther loved to travel with her family. Over the years she traveled to places in Europe, Japan, Korea and the Caribbean. She loved cooking and baking especially with others in her family. Esther also enjoyed working on crossword and word search puzzles.

A visitation for Esther will be on Monday, July 17, 2023 from 12:00 PM to 2:00 PM at Hartzler-Gutermuth-Inman Funeral Home with a memorial service starting at 2:00PM following the visitation. Graveside service will take place the following day on July 18, 2023 at 10AM at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens in Osceola.
