Evelyn N. Fackelman, 92, passed away peacefully at IU Health Arnett Hospital on October 18, 2014 in Lafayette, Indiana. Evie, as she was known by friends and family was born in Elkhart, Indiana, on July 1, 1922 to Ernest Franklin and Almeda (LeRue) Franklin and was a 1940 graduate of Elkhart High School. On November 19, 1941, she married the love of her life, Thomas G. Fackelman, in Elkhart. For 67 years, from their first day until their last day together, they were devoted to each other. They raised their family in Elkhart and spent their retirement years at Stone Lake in Middlebury, Indiana until they moved to West Lafayette, Indiana in 2007. She was employed by CTS Corporation for many years where she made many close friends. Over her lifetime, Evie was a member of St. Thomas Catholic Church in Elkhart, St. Mary's Catholic Church in Bristol, and Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church in West Lafayette. Evie treasured and looked forward to times when the family would gather together. She was a wonderful wife, mother, aunt, friend and neighbor and will be sadly missed by all who knew her.
Evelyn is survived by a son, Thomas F. Fackelman and wife, Kathy, of West Lafayette, Indiana; a son, Ernest J. Fackelman and wife, Cynthia J. Skaar of Winston-Salem, North Carolina; a granddaughter, Jennifer Guiney and husband Derrick of Delphi, Indiana; five great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, her sister, Ernestine Wollam, and her grandson, Corey Fackelman.
The viewing will take place from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m., Friday, October 24, 2014 at Hartzler-Gutermuth-Inman Funeral Home in Elkhart, Indiana. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday, October 25, 2014 at St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church in Elkhart, Indiana followed by interment at Rice Cemetery.
