Fannie E. Miller, 100, of Elkhart, formerly of Middlebury, died Friday morning, November 20, 2020 at East Lake Terrace in Elkhart.
Fannie was born July 20, 1920 in Kansas to the late Enos and Lydia (Miller) Bontrager.
As Fannie Bontrager, she married Jonas E. Miller in 1938 and he died in 1971. She then married Perry Miller in 1974 and he died in 1991. She was also preceded in death by a son, Delbert Miller, a son and daughter-in-law Nelson and Karen Miller; a brother, Wayne Bontrager; a sister, Elizabeth Yoder; two step-daughters: Judy Hogendobler and Kathy Clark and a granddaughter, Heather Miller. Her sister and her roommate at East Lake Terrace, Rosa Stone, died Sunday, November 22, 2020.
Surviving are a daughter, Verba (Pete) DeMauro and a son, Vern (Judy) Miller, both of Elkhart; a step-daughter, Virginia (Keith) Yoder of Osceola; a brother, Leroy (Joyce) Bontrager and a sister-in-law, Donna Bontrager of Goshen. Also surviving are sixteen grandchildren and twenty-five great grandchildren.
Fannie was a longtime employee of Smucker’s Drug Store in Middlebury where everybody knew her name. She was an avid reader and enjoyed making quilts. As a resident of Brentwood in Elkhart, she taught Sunday school and bible classes to her fellow neighbors. She was also a former member of the Middlebury Mennonite Church.
Private family services will be held and burial will be in Grace Lawn Cemetery in Middlebury. Hartzler-Gutermuth-Inman Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
