Gerald Wayne Key, 68, of Elkhart, died at home on Saturday, September 16, 2023.
Wayne was born on March 22, 1955, in Jasper, AL to the late Roy L. and Betty (Breed) Key.
On August 20, 1976, Wayne married the former Beth Ann Bontrager in Elkhart. She survives along with two daughters: Jennifer (John) Martin of Elkhart and Crystal Garrett of Parker City, IN; four grandchildren; Ethan and Aaron Martin and Gracen and Ryleigh Garrett; one sister, Sheila Lowry of Elkhart and Mike Key of Mississippi.
Wayne was in the graduating class of 1973 from Concord High School. He worked in the RV/MH Industry, working for Georgie Boy, Rockwood and most recently, Holiday Rambler where he was employed as a designer. After his retirement he enjoyed working in his workshop, designing and building projects for his family and friends. You could also find him cheering on his grandkids while they participate in their many different activities. He was a huge University of Alabama fan and enjoyed playfully harassing his Notre Dame loving family and friends. GO BAMA!!!
Visitation for Wayne will be held on Sunday, September 24th from 2 until 5 at Hartzler-Gutermuth-Inman Funeral Home. Additional visitation will be held on Monday, September 25th from 10 until the hour of the service at 11 am at Calvary United Methodist Church. The Rev. Paul Anderson will officiate and burial will be at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in memory of Wayne may be made to Humane Society of Elkhart County, 54687 County Road 19, Bristol, IN 46507.
