Illuminada Burns

Illuminada “Lumie” Burns, 86, of Elkhart, IN passed away the evening of Thursday, June 26, 2025 in her home surrounded by family.

Lumie was born on January 22, 1939 in Pamatawan Subic Zambales, Philippines to the late Eleuterio and Cornellia.

On September 21, 1969, she was united in marriage to Ronald Burns. They spent 47 wonderful years together before his passing in 2016.

Lumie is survived by her daughter, Margaret Burns, son Mark (Ariana) Burns, one grandchild, and sister Bueana Cruz.

Lumie was preceded in death by her parents as well as her daughter, Monique Burns, and two brothers.

Lumie enjoyed spending time outdoors, especially tending to her garden. She loved karaoke, and hosted karaoke parties with her family and friends. She was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother, and friend, and she will be deeply missed by all who knew her.

Visitation for Lumie will be held on Wednesday, July 2, 2025 from 4:00PM to 8:00PM at Hartzler-Gutermuth-Inman Funeral Home, 403 W Franklin St, Elkhart, IN 46516. A funeral service will be held on Thursday, July 3, 2025 at 10:00AM, also at the funeral home, with one hour of visitation prior. She will be laid to rest at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens.
