James J Searfoss

James Joseph "Jay" Searfoss, 65, of South Bend, passed away at the Hospice House in South Bend, Indiana, where he was admitted on Wednesday April 4, 2018.   His brother George, nephew Isaac, niece Ileana were at his bedside.  Center For Hospice Care provided In Home Hospice Service for James for the past three and a half years.

He was preceded in death by his parents Harold and Rose Searfoss; his brothers Theodore "Ted", David "Bill" and Thomas "Tom" Searfoss.  James is survived by his son Anthony Jay Searfoss,  sister Carolyn (Bill) Jayo of Vacaville, Ca. and brother George (Sylvia) Searfoss of Elkhart.  James has several loving nieces and nephews along with great nieces and great nephews and cousins.

James was employed for many years by the Kevin Dennis Insurance Agency of South Bend.

James grew up loving music, especially the guitar.  When he was 12 years old, James received his first acoustic guitar and was self taught.  It had been awhile since he recorded music in a studio.  In 2015 Center for Hospice Care was pleased to coordinate a recording session with Federated Media/B100 and James.   Several copies of the CD were made, which he distributed to some CHC staff, friends and family members. He had his own band at 12 years old.  He was also a member of several local bands in the Michiana area throughout his adult life.

 James was a graduate of Penn High School and Ivy Tech College.

Memorial Mass will be held at St. Vincent DePaul Catholic Church on Saturday, June 9, 2018 at 11:00 AM.
