Joan Marie Arbogast, 99, of Elkhart, died Thursday, September 24, 2021 at East Lake Terrace in Elkhart.
Joan was born September 30, 1921 in Gering, Nebraska to the late John and Esther (Barber) Barger. She married Charles Marvin Arbogast in Terre Haute, Indiana on October 22, 1949. Charles passed on April 6, 1978 in Elkhart.
Joan is also preceded in death by her sisters: Pauline Vaughn and Fannah Barger. She is survived by her children: Christopher (Cynthia) Arbogast of Edwardsburg, Emilie (Carl) Tiedemann of Elkhart, Charlotte (Roger) Burks of Osceola and Christlina (Douglas) Brown, Jr. of Elkhart. Joan is also survived by eleven grandchildren as well as many great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren.
Joan was a member of St. Davids Episcopal Church in Elkhart, where she loved to sing and be with her church family. For many years Joan worked at G.L. Perrys variety store in Elkhart. She loved to sing and dance and have a great time. Joan was a wonderful seamstress, she loved making clothing for her entire family. She also enjoyed crocheting small items from time to time for her family as well. When she wasn’t making clothing, she was watching her favorite sports teams, the Notre Dame fighting Irish and the San Francsico 49ers. Joan was also a huge Joe Montana fan. When she wasn’t watching sports, she was watching some of her favorite programs like the Golden Girls and Gunsmoke. Most of all she loved supporting her children and grandchildren whenever she could at sporting events and other school activities.
A visitation for Joan will be held Wednesday, September 29, 2021 from 4pm-7pm at Hartzler-Gutermuth-Inman Funeral in Elkhart. A funeral service for Joan will be held on Thursday, September 30, 2021 at 11am at St. Davids Episcopal Church in Elkhart with an hour of visitation prior to the service. Pastor Terri Peterson will be officiating. Burial will follow at Carlton Cemetery in Elkhart.
