Joseph Bozzuto Obituary

Joseph L. Bozzuto, 91, of Greenwood, Indiana, formerly of Vandalia, Michigan, died on

Friday, February 9, 2024, at the Franciscan Hospice House in Indianapolis.

Joe was born to the late Dominick and Mary (Checchia) Bozzuto.  He was also preceded in death by two sisters, Mary Louise Haney and Toni Truax and one brother, Mike.

On April 22, 1967, Joe married Kathleen Kain in Logansport, IN.  She survives along with a daughter, Theresa (Curt) Irons of Greenwood and a son, Anthony (Natalie) Bozzuto of Elwood, Indiana; five grandchildren, Luke, Adam, Joey, David and Jonah, and a brother, August “Gus” (Pam) Bozzuto of Elkhart.

Joe graduated from Elkhart High School in 1949 and then served in the United States Army. Upon his return to Elkhart, he worked at a barbershop on Franklin Street and later owned his own shop in Dunlap.  He retired at the age of 71 after working at numerous companies in the RV/MH industry.  He had been a member of St. Vincent DePaul Catholic Church, the Italian American Relief Association (I.A.R.A.) and the Knights of Columbus.

While living in the Elkhart area, Joe loved his time on Shavehead Lake, Michigan, going on slow boat rides, fishing, and spending time with his grandchildren.  If you were lucky, you might have received a rope bracelet from Joe after a special toast with Frangelico!  He was also an avid walker and loved doing yard work.  Later in life, he enjoyed going to an exercise class for those with Parkinson’s disease like him called the CLIMB.

Visitation for Joe will be held on Friday, February 16, 2024, from 10 am until the hour of the service at 12 pm at Hartzler-Gutermuth-Inman Funeral Home.  Funeral services will begin at noon with Father Bartholomew from St. Vincent DePaul officiating.  Burial will be in St. Vincent Cemetery where military honors will be rendered by the Elkhart Veteran Honor Guard and members of the U.S. Army.

Memorial donations in memory of Joe may be made to the Mount Pleasant Christian Church (the CLIMB), 381 North Bluff Rd., Greenwood, Indiana 46142, attn: Penny Clayton.
