June M. Bowers, 96, of Elkhart, passed away Thursday, January 22, 2026, at her home.
She was born on June 1, 1929, in Toledo, OH to the late Robert “Quinn” and Grace (Cook) Sloat. Also preceding her in death are a daughter, Karen E. Waldron and four sisters: Marilyn Miller, Betty Gilkey, Evelyn Miller, and Sharon Hayes. One sister, Ruth Wagoner, survives.
As June Sloat, she married Raymond Bowers, Jr., on October 29, 1950, in Elkhart. He passed away on June 10, 1981.
Surviving is a daughter, Cindy Bowers, a son, Stephen R. Bowers, seven grandchildren: Tyler Waldron, Spencer Waldron, Kayla Waldron, Helen (Markus) Stegmann, Seth (Elena) Bowers, Mark Bowers and Philip (Savannah) Bowers, and seven great grandchildren.
June worked for many years as a nurse’s aid at Elkhart General Hospital and as a paraprofessional at Pierre Moran Jr. High School. She was a huge sports fan and enjoyed bowling, the Chicago Cubs and Indiana University Basketball. She was proud of her grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Visitation for June will be held on Monday, February 2, 2026, from 9 am until the hour of the service at 10 am, all to be held at Hartzler-Gutermuth-Inman Funeral Home. Pastor Lori Grasty of Trinity on Jackson Church will officiate and June will be laid to rest next to her husband, Raymond at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens.
