Kirk D. Platt

Kirk D. Platt, 67, of Goshen, formerly of Elkhart, passed away on January 24, 2025, at Goshen General Hospital.

Kirk was born in South Bend on October 18, 1957, to Harold (Hotie) D. Platt, Jr. and Barbara (Singer) Platt. He spent most of his childhood living on Eagle Lake and graduated from Edwardsburg High School in 1977. From there, Kirk enlisted in the US Army, where he served in the 82nd Airborne Division until his honorable discharge in 1980. He then spent a few years in the Indiana National Guard and was most proud of his military service. Before becoming permanently disabled, Kirk worked at both Olive Garden and Martin’s on Jackson.

Despite being confined to a scooter for most of the last 25 years, Kirk did not let that slow him down as he could be seen cruising the streets of Elkhart with his signature American flag waving behind. He spent the last several years of his life living in the Healthcare unit at Greencroft and riding his scooter throughout much of Goshen.

Whether it be his time in Elkhart or Goshen, or a city he had never been to before, Kirk never met a stranger and would almost always greet you with a big smile. In spite of his physical adversities and limitations, Kirk remained positive and steadfast in his faith until the end.

Kirk was preceded in death by his parents, Hotie and Barbara, his stepmother Gracielee Matz Platt, and sister Karen Eichhorn. He is survived by his son Kyle (Erin) of Fishers, grandsons Brody and Logan, nephew Harold (Jessica) Eichhorn, and several stepsiblings, cousins, nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be held on Monday, April 28th, at 11am at Trinity on Jackson in Elkhart, with a Celebration of Life to follow at noon. A private graveside service will be held at a later time.  Hartzler-Gutermuth-Inman Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

The family would like to thank all of the staff at Greencroft who provided such excellent care and friendship to Kirk up until his passing.
