Lanny Leon Rogers, 85, of Elkhart, Indiana passed away the morning of Sunday, December 29, 2024 in his home surrounded by family.
He was born on June 23, 1939 in Elkhart to the late Howard and Elizabeth “Betty” Rogers. He graduated from Elkhart High School in 1957 and became a member of the National Guard. In 1963, he was united in marriage to Carolyn (Wardlow) Rogers.
Lanny went on to graduate from Acme Tool & Die School and served his apprenticeship at CTS. In 1976, he founded Hingecraft Corp. which remains a family business. In addition, he was a landlord in Elkhart for many years, served on the Cleveland township fire department board of directors, and was chairman of the board at Winding Waters Brethren Church where he was a longtime member.
Lanny had a passion for classic cars, especially Pontiacs, and even had a collection of his own. Lanny was a very loving and generous man. He never knew a stranger and loved to talk to people. He loved spending time with his family and doing things together. He was a wonderful addition to the community and he will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
Lanny is survived by his loving wife Carolyn as well as two children, Shelley (Rex) Larkin and Scott (Lisa) Rogers; grandchildren, Levi (Kristyn) Rogers, Mathew Rogers, Lexi Karagiannis, Kylie Larkin; one great-grandchild, Asin Rogers, and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents as well as siblings Ronald, James, and Royce Rogers.
A funeral service for Lanny will be held at 3:00 PM on Saturday, January 4, 2025 at Hartzler-Gutermuth-Inman Funeral Home, 403 West Franklin Street, Elkhart, IN 46516, officiated by Pastor Lee Solomon, with public visitation for 2 hours prior. Lanny will be laid to rest at Rice Cemetery after a private graveside ceremony.
