Linda L (Longfield) Unger

Linda L. Unger, 86, of Elkhart, died on Saturday, March 9, 2024, at North Woods Village at Edison Lakes in Mishawaka.

Linda was born on August 18, 1937, in Elkhart, only child to the late Dorvin and Kathryn (Moyer) Longfield.  She was also preceded in death by her son-in-law, Joe Manfredi, five brothers-in-law: Bill Unger and his wife, Pat Unger, Louie Kovach and Theresa Kovach, Jerry Seach, Stan Herman and Jerry Arend

As Linda Longfield, she married the love of her life, Robert Unger, on August 18, 1956, in Elkhart.  Bob died February 11, 2003.

Linda is survived by two daughters, Julie Manfredi and Amy Unger (Don Tripp).  Also surviving is Linda’s long-time companion, Ray Habic; three sisters-in-law, Helen Arend, Marian Herman and Joan Seach as well as twenty-one nieces and nephews and their families.

She attended the Elkhart Beauty School and was a licensed hair stylist.  She worked until her daughters were born and then she stayed home to raise them.  She volunteered at their schools as a room mother and was crafty when she decorated their classroom.  She was a wonderful, caring mother.

Linda loved attending her daughter Julie’s art classes where she painted several paintings.  She was also considered the class clown!  She had a love for animals and throughout her life, had several dogs.  She donated to the Humane Society and was a model for the annual Humane Society Style Show.

Linda always made people feel welcome to her circle of friends.  She never knew a stranger and had an infectious smile.

A Celebration of Life for Linda will be held on Sunday, March 24th, 2024, from 1:00 pm until 4:00 pm at the Matterhorn Conference Center 2041 Cassopolis St. Elkhart, IN 46514.  Hartzler-Gutermuth-Inman Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.
