After suffering with Alzheimer’s for over twelve years, Marilyn L. Young, 84 of Elkhart, passed into our Father’s arms on Tuesday, July 3, 2018 at Elkhart Terrace.
Marilyn was born on October 22, 1933 in Elkhart to the late Julius K. and Gertrude E. (Kambach) Hoffman.
As Marilyn Hoffman, she married Thomas E. Young on February 7, 1953 in Elkhart. Tom died on February 18, 2018. She was also preceded in death by a grandson, Dustin Young. Surviving are two daughters; Diane R. (Christopher Friend) Young and Deb (Jeff) Warner and a son, Dave E. (Angie) Young, all of Elkhart; five grandchildren, eight (and soon to be nine) great grandchildren and a sister, Margaret “Peg” Owens, also of Elkhart.
Marilyn had worked at Sautter’s as well as West View Florist for many years. She was also a proud member of the Girl’s Club, a group of women that has remained close even after graduating in 1951 from Elkhart High School. Marilyn was a gracious hostess who generously shared her family recipes, especially her recipe for her famous butter cookies.
Our parent’s special love and caring for each other was evident to all that knew them. To honor Marilyn and Tom and their 65-year commitment to each other, the family asks that you value your loved ones and commit to that love. Their undying love and amazing grace will continue to serve as examples for all of us.
The family would like to thank the caring staff at Eastlake Terrace and especially mom’s special caregivers, Jazmyn and Ruth.
Private family services will be held at a later date. Hartzler-Gutermuth-Inman Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
