Mary Mount Obituary

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Mary Ellen Mount on February 17, 2025 at the age of 79. With this sadness, it is important to acknowledge the blessing and peace she felt at going home to Jesus and her husband, David Mount. Mary Ellen was a beloved family member who touched the lives of many with her wit & sass, golf acumen, and competitive spirit.

Born in Terre Haute, IN, she spent her youth becoming an accomplished ballerina, excelling at school, running after her older brothers, and surrounded by family. She earned her bachelors in elementary education at Indiana University. Or, as she liked to tell us, she earned her Mrs. and married our father, Dave Mount, on June 10, 1967, the day of her graduation. She taught first grade until her dream of becoming a mother came true. Her true joy in life, however, came with the arrival of her grandchildren. She was always happiest taking care of them or sharing her words of wisdom with them.

In her free time she enjoyed golfing, boating, traveling, and going out with her friends. She was quite an accomplished golfer, and excelled in her league at the Elks country club. She prided herself on being Dave’s first mate on their boat trips. She loved to travel with her husband, and they filled a bucket list of national and international travel throughout their lives. Along with their close friend group, she immensely enjoyed dining out and seeing numerous shows, especially Jersey Boys. She also greatly enjoyed her weekly lunches and card groups with her friends.

She is survived by her brother: Chuck (Virginia) Clark, children: Amy (Mount) Scoles and Scott Mount (wife Jana Mount), and 5 grandchildren: Lake Scoles, Devon Scoles, Makena Mount, Natalie Mount and Camille Mount and many nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by her parents Ralph and Helen Clark, her aunt Mary (Bernard) Ringo and her brother Dick Clark.

A private graveside service will be facilitated by Hartzler-Gutermuth-Inman Funeral Home, at 403 W Franklin St, Elkhart, IN 46516 and held at Rice Cemetery in Elkhart, IN.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to Tunnel to Towers Foundation https://t2t.org/donate/
