Michael "Mike" Miles Obituary

Michael E. “Mike” Miles, 49, of Bristol, passed away Saturday July 28th, 2018. He was born January 23rd, 1969 in Elkhart, Indiana, to Lawrence Miles and Lynne (Cormican) Miles. He married Christine “Christy” Logan on July 21st, 1990, in Elkhart, Indiana. He is survived by his wife and children, Jack E. Miles and Logan M. Miles; his mother Lynne and his sister Julie (Marcus) Rinehart; his eleven nieces and nephews Maddie, Joey, Kelly (Matt), Matt (Kathy), Brock, Nick, Nicole, Zach, and Sam; He also leaves behind many wonderful and amazing extended family members, friends, and community. He was preceded in death by his father Lawrence E “Larry” Miles, brother Jeffery D. “David” Miles, and nephew Miles Rinehart.

Mike was born and raised in Elkhart, Indiana where the Miles family has long established its ties in the community. He graduated from Elkhart Central High School in 1987. While at Central he fell in love with his high school sweetheart Christy. Mike and Christy both attended Indiana University - Bloomington, eventually Mike would graduate from IUPUI and go into the restaurant business.

Mike worked at many restaurants over the years but mainly the Matterhorn Restaurant (Elkhart, IN) as a manager, the East Bank Emporium (South Bend, IN) as a part-owner, and the Miles Lab (Elkhart, IN) as the owner. The Miles Lab was opened in 2010, and honored the Miles family legacy.

He enjoyed coaching and attending his son’s and family’s sporting events, spending time at the family’s lake house, family vacations to the beach, and the joys of spending time with all of his family and friends. He was a long-time supporter of the Chicago Cubs and Indiana Hoosiers (through the good and the bad for both, mostly the bad). He sat on the Board of the culinary program for the Elkhart Career Center; provided time, money and effort to Toys for Tots, American Heart Association, the FOP, and so much more; he was also a big believer in the eat, drink, and support local businesses.

There are no good words to describe this loss. He was a man of great character, encouraging all of those close to him to chase their best life, their passions, and their dreams. He instilled many life lessons, provided many helping hands, and so much more to everyone he came into contact with. This is a deep loss for the family, but also for the community and everyone he knew.
