Patricia (Pat) Ann Turner Smith, 90, of Elkhart, died on Tuesday, April 25, 2023, 2:30 p.m. at the Center for Hospice Care, Ernestine Raclin House in Mishawaka surrounded by her family.
Pat was born in Chicago, Illinois on August 11, 1932, to Charles and Myra Turner. She was preceded in death by her older sister, Marjorie Eloise Turner.
She met Harold (Smitty) Smith at Illinois Institute of Technology (I.I.T). and they were married on September 21, 1957, in Chicago. He preceded her in death in December 2009. She left two children, Debra (Christopher) Hughes of Union, Michigan and Steven (Johnelle) Smith of Zionsville, Indiana. She left five grandchildren, Katherine (Evan Javel) Wright, Quinton Smith, Andrew (Caitlyn) Wright, Carmen (Kenneth) Martin and Eve Smith.
Pat was a graduate of I.I.T where she received a Bachelor of Science in Home Economics. After college graduation, she worked for the Culinary Arts Institute in Chicago as a Home Economist in their recipe test kitchen.
Pat was a long-time member of the Elkhart General Hospital Auxiliary, chaired Auxiliary’s Festival of (Christmas) Trees fundraiser, and part of a bridge club that played cards monthly for more than 50 years. She was also a world traveler, a beloved mother and grandmother.
Visitation for Pat will be held on Friday, May 5, 2023, from 3-6 pm at the Hartzler-Gutermuth-Inman Funeral Home. She will be cremated and laid to rest in the Charity cremation tower in Rice Cemetery in Elkhart, next to her husband at a later date.
