Paul Witcher Obituary

Paul Alan Witcher, 73, of Elkhart, passed away peacefully at his home on Friday, November 3, 2023.

Paul was born in Elkhart on March 18, 1950, to Jacqueline Ellen Schacherer and Rolland Bernard Witcher.  He was one of five children: David, Debra (Beehler), John and Lisa (Sylvester).  Paul graduated from Elkhart High School, Class of 1968.

Paul attended Marquette University and later completed an apprenticeship where he learned the trade of carpentry.  Known as a jack of all trades, Paul worked on many projects throughout his lifetime and during the 70s and 80s was fortunate to work in diverse locations including Saudi Arabia, Southern California and Texas.  He also worked at Amish Acres in Nappanee, IN and Eby’s Pines in Bristol, IN.  He loved challenging carpentry projects like libraries and staircases and enjoyed fine craftsmanship.

Paul owned a home on Middlebury Street in Elkhart and lived there most of his life.  He enjoyed playing the guitar and banjo and singing folk music.  He was an avid photographer and worked on many photography projects with his friend, David Mitschelen.  Paul loved to read, especially fantasy fiction.  He played Dungeons and Dragons and loved the original Star Trek movies and television series.

Paul had a big heart, a wry sense of humor and a great generosity of spirit.  He was always willing to help a friend in need.  He loved his children very much and was a dedicated parent and loving grandparent.  He enjoyed spending time and playing music with children.  Paul was very talented and capable; he did quality work and was passionate about life.

Paul married Jacque Hatfield on September 3, 1993.  They originally met in Elkhart through mutual friends, and they reconnected later in life when they came together as partners and Jacque moved from Sunnydale, California to join Paul and his family.

Paul is survived by his children, Shawn, Noelle, Cari and Diana, grandchildren, Kaidyn, Hannah, Hailey, Nathan, Nicholas, Desmond, Clara, Evelyn and Gabriel and his siblings, Lisa, John, Debra and David.  He is also survived by the mothers of his children, Carrie Dunn and Kathy Ruggles.  He is preceded in death by his wife, Jacque, his mother, Jacqueline and his father, Rolland.

The family deeply appreciates your support during this difficult time and asks that you make contributions to plant trees and protect wildlife habitat through the Indiana Natural Resources Foundation in lieu of flowers and share memories of Paul on our memorial Facebook page.  There will be a memorial gathering from 12:00 PM until 3:00 PM on Sunday, August 4th at the Willowdale Park Pavilion in Elkhart.  Everyone is welcome.  Arrangements have been made with Hartzler-Gutermuth-Inman Funeral Home.
