Ronnie L. Davis, 79, of Elkhart, IN, entered his eternal rest on Wednesday, August 27, 2025, at East Lake Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.
Born on February 8, 1946, in Blytheville, Arkansas, Ronnie was the son of the late Virdee Jackson. He was also preceded in death by his brother, Fred I. Williams, Jr.
On July 21, 2014, Ronnie married the love of his life, Sonia Hadley, in Las Vegas. She survives, along with his children who were his pride and joy: daughters Franzyne “Yvette” Davis-Wade of South Bend, Sheila D. Miller of Goshen, and Dacey S. Davis of Elkhart; and sons Tracey L. Hill of South Bend, Michael C. Hadley of Davenport, IA, Chad D. (Devin) Hadley of Fishers, IN, and Celby M. (Janell) Hadley of Plainfield, IN. He also leaves behind a remarkable legacy of family with 23 grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild. Ronnie is also survived by his loving siblings, Sharon A. Walker and Cathy J. (Joseph) Pratcher, both of Elkhart, and Kerry L. (Celestine) Williams of Elkhart, as well as a host of nieces, nephews, extended family, and countless friends.
Ronnie was a man of vision, service, and faith. As the President of Davis and Davis Enterprises Inc. and the owner of #1 Insurance by Ron Davis, Ron Davis Bail Bonds, and Ron Davis Fundraising Ministries, he built businesses with integrity and compassion, always striving to lift others as he rose. He shared his love in the kitchen and behind the grill, where his cooking brought family and friends together. As the owner of several restaurants and a true grill master, he created spaces of hospitality where meals became memories and community was built.
Ronnie was a devoted member and co-founder of Refreshing Grace Ministries, where he served as a Deacon. He also served faithfully at Canaan Baptist Church, leading as President of the Male Chorus and the Deacon Board. Known for his generosity, he often gave to local churches to ensure they had the resources and equipment needed to serve their members and the wider community.
In civic and community leadership, Ronnie’s impact was unmatched. He was the longest-tenured NAACP President in Indiana history, leading the NAACP Elkhart County Branch for more than 30 years and serving as First Vice President of the NAACP Indiana State Conference. His lifelong fight for equality, justice, and opportunity left an indelible mark on Elkhart and across the state. He also served on the Elkhart Board of Public Works, Board of Zoning Appeals, Plan Commission, and on Mayor Tim Neese’s Advisory Board. Professionally, he retired as a respected Regional Manager for Anthem Insurance.
Through it all, Ronnie remained a man of faith, family, and fellowship—anchored in service and driven by love. His laughter, wisdom, and unshakable presence will be missed by all who knew him.
Visitation will be held Friday, September 5, 2025, from 10:00 a.m. until the service at 12:00 noon at Church on the Rock of Michiana, 2626 Prairie Street, Elkhart, IN. Pastors Celby Hadley and Juard Barnes will officiate. Entombment will follow at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens in Osceola, with arrangements entrusted to Hartzler-Gutermuth-Inman Funeral Home. A repass will take place at the church immediately following the service.
Ronnie L. Davis will forever be remembered as a pillar of strength, a voice for justice, and a man who lived with purpose. His life was his testimony, and his legacy of faith, leadership, and love will continue to shine through the countless lives he touched.
