Wayne K. Yoder, 98, of Elkhart, died at Majestic Care of Goshen on Monday, August 19, 2024.
He was born February 8, 1926, in Elkhart to the late Ray A. and Virginia M. (Yoder) Yoder. Also preceding him in death are a daughter, Jackie Brown and two brothers, Robert A. and Larry Yoder.
After school, Wayne enlisted in the U.S. Army and served during WWII. He served in the European Theatre and participated in the Battle of the Bulge. He was awarded the Purple Heart after being wounded in action in 1945. Wayne worked as a foreman for Domore Chairs in the 1950’s-1960’s, owned Yoder’s Saw Service in the 60’s and the 70’s, was the maintenance man for First Baptist Church in the 70’s-80’s and ended his career as a carpenter with Willie’s Home Construction. He was a member of First Baptist Church and enjoyed collecting coins. He was honored at the Goshen Air Show last year for his military service.
He married Velma L. Eggleston on November 16, 1946, in Elkhart. Velma passed away on September 19, 2018. He is survived by a daughter, Pat (John) Long of Goshen and three sons: Steve Yoder and David (Dawn) Yoder, both of Elkhart and Terry Yoder of Indianapolis, ten grandchildren, seventeen great grandchildren and six great great grandchildren.
Visitation for Wayne will be held on Thursday, August 22, 2024, from 5 pm until 7 pm at Hartzler-Gutermuth-Inman Funeral Home. Graveside services with military honors will be held on Friday, August 23, 2024, at 2:30 pm at Prairie Street Cemetery with Pastor Phil Byars officiating.
