Wilbert W. Newsome, 85, of Elkhart died March 27, 2020 at Center for Hospice in Elkhart. He was born September 21, 1934 in St. Louis to Edgar and Jessie (Browder) Newsome.
Wilbert moved to Elkhart in 1942. He married Delores Francis Richardson who preceded him in death in 1992. He was an active and noticeable member in the Elkhart community, specifically with Servants of the Streets Family and Worship Training Center, New York Central Railroad Museum, and Optimist Club. He donated countless hours to The Salvation Army, the Humane Society, and the Moose Lodge.
Wilbert is survived by a brother Noland Newsome; sisters, Martha Webb and Shirley Bramley-Newsome, his Godson, Nader Selah and a host of nieces and nephews.
Along with his parents and wife, Wilbert is preceded in death by brothers; Clarence Newsome, David Newsome, Edgar Newsome, Willie Newsome, Curtis Newsome, Delnar Newsome, Oliver Newsome, sisters; Bertha Newsome, Louise Ursery, Ruth Jones, Dorothy Suggs, and Myrean Blakley, and Betty Jane Bennett whom he was blessed to share love with after the loss of his first wife.
Because of the public health and safety standards in place due to the COVID-19 virus, visitation and memorial services will be held at a later date. Hartzler-Gutermuth-Inman Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
