William E. Woods

William E. Woods, 71, of Elkhart, passed away at Elkhart General Hospital on Wednesday, June 19, 2024.

He was born on December 15, 1952, in Covington, TN to the late Arthur and Lula Mae (Jones) Woods Sr.  Also preceding him in death was a son, Tyrone Woods and a brother, Arthur Woods Jr.

In 1973, William married Julia P. Bryant in Elkhart.  She survives along with two daughters; Lora “Lottie” Askew of Indianapolis and Sierra Brownlee of Dallas, TX; a son, Victor Love (Adrienne Hernandez) of Elkhart, four sisters: Edna Redmond of Indianapolis, Gloria Jean Woods, Marguerite (Tony) Fowler and Flora Ann (Nathan) Harris all of Elkhart; two brothers, Willie (Mary) Woods and Walter Woods, both of Elkhart; eleven grandchildren and a sister-in-law, Wanda Woods of Elkhart.

William had been employed as a truck driver by Transtar Industries prior to his retirement in 2009.  He enjoyed playing poker and was always the life of the party.  He also enjoyed hunting and was an excellent cook.

Visitation for William will be held on Friday, June 28, 2024, from 11 am until the hour of the service at 12 noon at Pilgrim Rest Missionary Baptist Church.  The Rev. Danny Brown will officiate and burial will be in Prairie Street Cemetery.  Hartzler-Gutermuth-Inman Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.
